Katz-N-Flocken Nutrient Boost
Sold Gold Cat Food Reviewed by my Multi-Cat Household
by Rita Reimers, Cat Behavior Expert (updated for 2026)
I always enjoy trying new cat products, especially when it comes to nutrition. When Solid Gold reached out and asked if I would be interested in reviewing their Katz-N-Flocken NutrientBoost cat food, I was excited to give it a try and see how my cats responded to it.
What we got – Solid Gold Nutrient Boost Dry Food and Meal Toppers!
Solid Gold – The Original Holistic Brand of Pet Food
To begin my Solid Goal cat food review, a little about the company: According to the packaging, Solid Gold has been making holistic pet food since 1974. This review focuses on the NutrientBoost version of Katz-N-Flocken Lamb, Brown Rice & Pearled Barley Recipe, designed to support gut health for cats of all life stages.
The Meal Topper was created to support digestion and nutrient absorption, and both products contain protein-packed plasma with amino acids and antibodies. The formulas are also gluten free.
But – Will the Cats Eat It?
Of course, the real question in a multi-cat household is always: will the cats actually eat it?
At the time of this review, I had 18 cats, and anyone living with multiple cats knows they rarely all agree on the same food. There are always a few picky opinions in the group, so I focused mostly on how the majority responded.
So, what did the cats think?
Solid Gold Cat Food Review: The Cat’s Critique
My cats were immediately interested when I put the Solid Gold NutrientBoost food out alongside their regular dry food. In fact, they finished the Solid Gold first and largely ignored the other bowl, which definitely says something in a multi-cat household.
One moment that especially stood out to me involved Scooter. He was 16 years old at the time of this review. Scooter had not been very interested in his wet food lately, and I was concerned about both his nutrition and hydration. I decided to try sprinkling some of the Meal Topper onto his food. To my surprise, he ate it eagerly.
Of course, living with 18 cats, not every cat agrees on every food, but overall this formula was extremely well received in my household.
Rita’s Review of Solid Gold
Overall, this food was very well received in my household. My cats can be extremely picky about dry food, so that alone says a lot.
I also appreciated that the formula avoids many common fillers, including potato, corn, wheat, and soy. PLUS it contains no artificial preservatives. Ingredients such as carrots, pumpkin, and blueberries add antioxidants, fiber, and phytonutrients that support overall health.
As someone living with a large multi-cat household, I know that no food will please every cat equally. However, Solid Gold NutrientBoost was a definite success with the majority of my crew.
