Usually when a new feline enters my life, I follow a standard procedure: the cat lives in the bathroom for a couple of days to get acclimated, goes to the vet for a routine exam, and upon getting a clean bill of health will be slowly introduced to the rest of the clan. I broke the rules for “Itty Bit”, whom I would eventually rename “Sadie”.
As soon as I entered my apartment with the carrier, Trouble approached it, and Sweet Pea wasn’t far behind. Trouble wanted whatever was in there very badly. I set it down and opened the carrier, but not before grabbing my camera.
Sadie came out slowly, and instead of taking that “Big Girl” stance she took with me, once she saw Trouble she reverted to acting like the tiny baby that she was. She crawled out very slowly, now acting as if she could barely stand on her wobbly little legs.
Precious and Sebastian hid, but Trouble and Sweet Pea greeted her warmly. Sweet Pea tried to mother her, and Trouble was definitely acting the daddy. I photographed the first meeting of Trouble and Sadie; the two were destined to fall in love and become inseparable.
It didn’t take long for her to regain her regal stance and prance around the kitchen like she was queen of the castle. Sadie was accepted into our family and taken into all of our hearts; even Precious (who hates other living things) and Sebastian (who isn’t very social as a rule) eventually accepted her and seemed to know she held a special place of honor in our lives.
Monday morning came, and when I saw Don in his office I gave him a big smile. “Guess what I did?” I teased. “I adopted Itty Bit from Barbara”, and I proceeded to tell him the story.
He gave me a great big grin and said “See, I told you one of the kittens had your name on it, and that was the one I knew was meant for you!” I would never live that down, but that was ok with me!
